People often ask me this time of year, what's it like to live on the Outer Banks in the winter? "Well", I say, "it's like Disney World when Mickey goes home. All the rides are still there, but most of them are closed down."
All joking aside, life around the OBX goes from fast-paced, almost city-type atmosphere in the summer to small-town, where everybody knows your name in the winter. It's kind of refreshing really. We love visitors! Don't get me wrong. But it would be very difficult to hold that fast-paced lifestyle year-round. Our down-home feel is part of what makes the OBX unique.
January through March are the months of OBX hibernation. Many of us locals take time away from work for a much needed vacation either in a warmer tropical location or perhaps skiing in the mountains. Filled with anticipation for the spring, I typically take my downtime to grow in my knowledge of the latest photography trends, make much needed changes within the business, book weddings, network with other photographers, and help out with my local church.
So while you're snuggling up with your honey-to-be, think of us on the OBX! Stay warm!
PS. Every once in a while we also get an Awesome Winter Wedding! Here's to Toni and Jeff!
